To protect your home from unwanted invasion here are some tips:
Check your perimeter- Animals are seeking food, water and shelter. They also need a place where to have their young so making sure to check the windows and doors and make sure it’s always closed. Look for gaps and holes near the foundation and seal them up.
Check your roof- Since you are probably aren’t on your roof always it can be easy to forget that this is where a lot of animals can enter the house. Always ensure that chimney caps are present and that it is tight so no animals even squirrels or raccoons or even rats can fit in.
Check your Yard- Trees with branches touching your house especially the roof can be an issue. Insects and other pests can essentially use this as a gateway to enter parts of the home. Check garbage cans-always make sure that it is enclosed securely. Big animals like stray dogs or even bears can invade your home searching for food.
Check your Lighting- Check your lighting make sure to replace your bulbs if it emits and radiates ultraviolet energy which of course bugs like. Replace porch lights with yellow bulbs or high pressure sodium ones to help prevent insects landing on your house at night.

Prevention is better than removal, if you have a skunk or a much larger animal inside your home that can provide damage paying for a professional is better. Keeping animals out usually seems to be far less that you spend when they are inside the home. Mosquitos and cockroaches can cause disease- Rats or mice always eat everything.
