Summerlin Information and Highlights
Summerlin is a master-planned community that is under development by The Howard-Hughes Corporation in the Las Vegas Valley. The area is dotted with affluent and beautiful homes amongst a mixture of residential and commercial homes, all surrounded by the beauty of the Mojave Desert. Summerlin was also named one of the “Best Places to Live in America” by Money. One thing is certain – it is a pristine area full of 150 neighborhoods and village parkes, including the only two Tournament Players Club golf courses in all of Nevada. A stone’s throw away from the big city itself, Summerlin is a quiet, affluent neighbor where residents and visitors alike can enjoy a gorgeous home, lovely cycling paths and some truly refreshing recreation and shopping. History
1952 would be the year that Howard Robard Hughes Jr. purchased 25,000 acres of land in Southern Nevada near Las Vegas and named the area “Husite”. The name would eventually be changed to “Summerlin” after Jean Amelia Summerlin, Hughes’ paternal grandmother. Summa Corporation would be brought in to begin construction of the Summerlin communities in 1990, but the beginning of planning and architecture construction actually began in the 80s. By 2002, Summa was now known as The Howard Hughes Corporation would take on a second exchange with the Bureau of Land Management to eventually go on to complete 150 miles of the Summerlin Trail System. At present, 19 of 31 total villages are complete or in development, and the work is ever-expanding the diverse and decadent city.
Location
Summerlin is located in South Nevada, within the borders of the city of Las Vegas in unincorporated Clark County. Situated near the southernmost tip, Summerlin is known for its luxurious homes and close proximity to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Spring Mountains.
Weather
The climate is arid, as is typical in the Mojave Desert. Like Las Vegas, Summerlin enjoys the flora and fauna of the desert with nearly year-round temperatures ranging in the eighties and nineties. While it was subject to torrential floods like the rest of Las Vegas once, the efforts of the city to negate it have done wonders for Summerlin and the surrounding areas.
