Boulder City is located on the outskirts of Las Vegas, and directly south of Henderson. Despite being a smaller city, Boulder City still has all of that Las Vegas charm and glitz to its sights, sounds and scenery. History
The Bureau of Reclamation built this city in 1932 as housing for the workers who would eventually build the Hoover Dam. An architect named Saco Rienk de Boer was brought in as a contractor to plan the federal city as a model community. The town was built with optimism in mind, as the construction of the Hoover Dam represented hope for those suffering through the Great Depression, and thus the city was built with that same hope in mind. Its large amounts of open space allowed for extensive work by DeBoer, and the work put in by the architect earned it the nickname of “Nevada’s Garden City”. Under the regulations of Mayor Sims Ely, land production and commercialization was extremely limited, and Boulder City began its stretch as being populated by males entirely so that it was largely provisions for workers alone.
