1.       Concentrate on the room the guests will likely to go into. Decide where you’ll entertain. If the kids will have the family room, concentrate on the living room, powder room and/or bathroom for guests’ use. Also spruce up your bedroom if they’ll stay overnight.

2.       Decorate and keep these places neat and tidy: Fluff pillows and cushions. Remove objects that belong elsewhere. Run carpet sweeper if necessary. Remove all dying flowers, greens, or sick potted plants. Even shades or blinds or close draperies that pull.

3.       Check the powder room and/or bathroom to be visited. Grab paper spots. Draw the shower curtain if someone didn’t do a good cleaning job. If the toilet bowl needs your help, throw in some bowl cleaner or dishwasher detergent and let it stand while you use glass-cleaning spray on the mirror. Use a toilet brush if necessary; otherwise, flush the toilet as you leave.

4.       Clean sinks with a disinfectant cleaner. Be sure to clean fixtures as well as hardware and pipes under the sink. Rinse with clean water and wipe water spots off with a clean cloth.

5.       Spot clean walls with a disinfectant cleaner to remove marks and smudges. During spot-cleaning, note any burned out light bulbs, leaky faucets or other irregularities which need attention.

6.       Check toilet paper and facial tissues and put out guest towels. Hide the used family towels. Be sure to wash the soap case. All your supplies should be sorted in or near the bathroom, even the cleaning products.

Proper Caring for your Books

We love our books. If not properly maintained however, dust can build up on the covers. Here are the some tips to make your books look brand new longer.

1.       Begin to exercise care the first time you open a book. Lay the book on its back. Open it a few pages at a time beginning with one side, then on the other. Press lightly along the bound (inside) edge as you turn the pages to minimize the stiffness. It also helps to prevent “book spine” injury.

2.       Make a habit of using a bookmark, instead of turning down page corners or lying the book face down

3.        Don’t overcrowd bookshelves to allow easy removal of books otherwise the spine will be damaged if you do it by force. To pull out a book from the shelf insert forefinger and thumb on either side of the book then gently slide it out.

4.       Stack flat oversized books such as atlases, art and music books.

5.       To preserve their bindings, don’t let your books slump on partly filled shelves. Use book ends so that they will stand upright.

6.       Set books near the front of the shelf to allow air to circulate at the back.

7.       Remember that too much heat dries out books; too much moisture causes mildew.

8.       Condition leather-bound books for temperature change with fine paste wax. The best time to do it is when the book is new, then repeat every year or every 2 years. Apply a small amount of wax on a piece of clean, white, absorbent cloth. Spread quickly and lightly over the leather, making sure not to touch the end paper or pages.

9.       Mend torn pages with gummed onionskin paper or tissue.

10.   Dust books every month with soft, clean cloth. To give your books a good dusting, wipe clean with a cloth. If they are particularly dirty, take each one from the shelf and vacuum it with the brush attachment of your vacuum. If the books are leather bound, you can use a fine leather polish on the covers that can be bought in bookstores.

11.   Once a year, remove books from shelves and dust them individually.

Choosing the right aquarium

4.       Syphon all the water out of the tank.

5.       When you are finished rinse the aquarium out. Check it again to make sure it’s clean.

6.       Fill the bucket with clean water. Again, if you have a hose with a high water pressure spray ythe rocks.

7.       Scrub all ornament and all the plastic plants. Take the filters and scrub each piece.

8.       Put the rocks back into the aquarium and fill halfway with water.

9.       Fill the aquarium the rest of the day with water. Add any dechlorination fluids if needed.

10.   Attach the filters and turn them on when the water is one inch from the top of the aquarium

11.   One by one using your fish net, return the fishes.

How do you help children organize their rooms and stuff? Try these organization strategies to calm clutter and bring order to kid’s rooms.

1.       Take a child’s eye view- Look at your child’s space, storage and furniture and possessions from the his or her vantage point. The view may surprise you because adult furniture and organizing systems don’t translate well to children’s needs. For example, sticky dresser drawers are hard for small hands to wipe. 3.       Sort, Store and Simplify- Kids can’t stay organized when the closet is crammed, the drawers are stuffed, and playthings are scattered all over. The solutions: sort, store and simplify. Begin with clothing. Sort it out socks, undergarments, tshirts, blouses and shorts. Store them where they belong.

4.       Make it easier to put away, harder to get out- The premier rule for efficient children’s storage? Make it easier to put something away than it is to get out. Compare a traditional bookcase, where little fingers can pull down a whole shelf faster. Build the effort into getting out, not putting away.

5.       Organize from bottom to top- To befit a child shorter stature start organizing from the bottom of the room to the top. Higher level are designated for less frequently used possessions.

Cleaning your windows is an annoying chore to do. To make sure you complete the tasks here are a few tips to consider:

1.       Don’t wash the windows on a sunny day- It dries up the cleaner which makes it harder to wipe off, leaving hard to wipe streaks. Choose a day where it’s cloudy. But if it’s sunny and you are itching to clean- start with the shady part of the house first.

2.       Don’t dust the sills and sashes’ first-skip this test as water dripping to the window frames can cause a muddy mess. Vacuum the frames, sills and sash before the glass itself.

3.       Use Window cleaners- don’t save it!- Do not be afraid to use enough windows cleaner especially if the windows are really dirty. You need much amount of cleaners to make sure that dirt suspends and wipes away or else it turns into streaks.

4.       Never use Newspapers to dry- Newspapers are messy and Ineffective when drying windows. Use microfiber clothes that are washable and streak free.
